OUR STORY

1st Generation Homesteaders

Viers Dale Homestead has its roots in a garden plot 100 miles and nearly three decades away, that Kim grew with her Dad in their tiny backyard in the city.

Fast forward thirty average, and one very strange year, and the mind starts to wonder about days gone by, cherished memories of tomato plants and wild morning glories on chain link fence in the early morning, of food and supply chains, and who really holds the cards of freedom, relative to an individual's life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

In 2015 we moved to Northeastern Pennsylvania from New Jersey, and started container gardening, and began our adventure in earnest after many containers and dreams, in spring of 2020, on our 14 secluded acres.

Currently at the close of the 2022 season we have a 1500 sq. ft. garden, 17 chickens, an Anatolian shepherd, a boxador, and a decent larder of home grown, home canned food.

We see that communities have become far too dependent on non-local supply chains as well as wildly detached from even the simple self sufficient abilities of our not-that-distant relatives.

We want to move closer to that way of life for its honest work, simplicity, and dependability, and hopefully someday, total self sufficiency. But there is a long, long road ahead, and so much to learn.

And its going great so far... mostly.

Thanks for joining us!
